Cutter Gauthier who was selected as the fifth pick overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, had a significant change.
In a deal that was executed on Monday, the Philadelphia Flyers sent Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks in return for Jamie Drysdale and a second-round pick that would be allocated to the 2025 NHL Draft.
The 19-year-old star, Gauthier, has shown off his skills by scoring 23 points this season for Boston College—a combination of 13 goals and 10 assists—in 17 games.
When he won the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship as the top forward, his incredible journey came to an end.
In just seven games during this historic tournament, Gauthier scored 12 points—two goals and ten assists—that helped the United States win the gold medal.
The Flyers’ wise general manager, Daniel Briere, revealed that Gauthier had expressed his desire to stop wearing the Flyers’ uniform as early as May of the previous year.
In the opening intermission of Philadelphia’s 4-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Briere stated, “This move has resulted in a long-term story that is developing over a lengthy period of time.
Efforts were made to give Gauthier the space he needed, and numerous attempts were made to make contact.
Unfortunately, the Gauthier camp never quite reciprocated. As such, we were faced with the necessity of reaching a final decision.
Recent events came together at the perfect time for us to maximize the value of this transaction, especially Gauthier’s outstanding achievement as the top scorer at the World Junior Championship.”
Briere emphasized how uncommon it is to find a player of Jamie Drysdale’s ability and how fortunate they were to have found a right-shot defenseman of his caliber to strengthen their lineup.
Briere argued that the move from a left winger to this starting role was not only a calculated risk but also a timely chronological turn that the Flyers saw as wise and fortunate.
